Internship / Master Thesis: Automated Design Workflow for Spacecraft Valve Actuators

München
Vollzeit
Praktikum/Werkstudium

Deine Mission

Join our fluid control equipment development team and help build the internal design software and simulation architecture for electromagnetic actuators. Actuator design is driven mainly by mechanical (pressure) loads and electromagnetic performance, so the two must be optimized together. You will evaluate FEniCSx as the basis for this workflow, build the code base, and validate the design methodology.
This position can be extended into a thesis project.
  • Develop a coupled structural and electromagnetic FEM design workflow for solenoid actuators
  • Implement solvers with the open-source framework FEniCSx / DOLFINx for two use cases:
    • A 2D axisymmetric solver for coupled electromagnetic and structural optimization
    • A 3D solver to validate the structural and electromagnetic performance of the final design
  • Validate the solvers numerically against standard benchmark cases and against results from deltaVision's current simulation tools
  • Optionally, validate structural and electromagnetic results experimentally

Dein Profil

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant engineering program, ideally Computational Mechanics, Computational Science and Engineering (CSE), Computer Science, or a similar field
  • Demonstrated software development experience (e.g., working student jobs, engineering projects, or a thesis)
  • Motivated, pragmatic, and self-organized
  • Fluent in English; German and other languages are a plus

Wir bieten

  • Internship can be mandatory or voluntary
  • Above average remuneration
  • Guided but self-determined problem solving to realize your ideas
  • Deep dive into the domain of commercial spaceflight and mobility
  • Opportunity for an adjacent employment as working student or for thesis
  • Flexible entry date, the sooner the better with flexible working hours
  • Holiday entitlement above German standards

About us

We are deltaVision GmbH – a young, ambitious high-tech company based in Munich, driving the future of in-space mobility and infrastructure.

Since our founding in 2022, we have been developing, manufacturing, and qualifying advanced fluid control systems for the aerospace industry and H₂ aviation. Our expertise spans cryogenic and high-pressure propulsion systems as well as next-generation orbital refueling technologies, including couplers and fully integrated refueling systems designed for the harsh environment of space.

With our deep knowledge of fluid control for space systems, we are shaping the space economy towards refuelable and reusable spacecraft. We enable longer mission lifetimes, greater operational flexibility, and entirely new architectures for sustainable space operations.

What sets us apart?
  • Innovative products enabling next-generation space infrastructure
  • Exceptional cost efficiency through optimized design and manufacturing
  • Rapid development and delivery cycles beyond traditional industry standards

We are rethinking spaceflight — enabling a future where spacecraft are not disposable, but reusable, refuelable, and built to operate sustainably in orbit.
